Title: Best summer music
Post by: russell on March 21, 2009, 12:03:58 PM
Since it looks like it's finally fully Spring around here, I've had need to pull out my summer tunes for those long windows-down drives and outdoor Boyah browsings.

What are your favorite albums/artists/songs for summer?

My top album is definitely Keep Guessin', by the defunct Minneapolis band Hockey Night. Because I know no one here has heard it, and because I hate the band for breaking up mid-way through production of the album's sequel, I shall provide it to you for free (link below). It is excellent and I'd encourage anyone who likes alternative/indie to try it.

The Beach Boys, Naturally.

Also, The Joshua Tree - U2, Showbiz - Muse pop into my head for some reason.

I went out to eat and The Decemberists came on. I like to believe that this was a sign. Also that it was the choice of my cute waitress.

Just letting you know that spring and summer are two different seasons. psyduck;

Also, I can't get into The Beach Boys. I tried, but they just don't sound extremely summer-like to me. If it were up to me, I would listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Summer music?

Pretty much any band in the jam scene.
-There's moe. Studio album wise, go with the conch. Other than that, dig up any of their "warts and all" and make sure rebubula's on there.
-String cheese incident.
-Umphrey's Mcgee
-Phish (of course). I have tickets to seem them in June. Yum yum.
-Allman Bros.

I associate most psychedelia with summer.
-Quicksilver messenger service is mindblowing
-The seeds
-Country Joe and the fish.
-Love
Then the generics, like the zombies, Jefferson airplane, strawberry alarm clock and anything clapton, especially, blues.
-Throw in "The madcap laughs" by Syd barret for good measure.

You could try those B-surf tunes by "Man or Astroman"

Reggae is always summer(y).
-I've been hung up on "10 ft ganja plant" for some time now.

That new(er) Bon Iver album would be great for killing an afternoon under a tree.

The Violent Femmes have that hot afternoon feel to them.

Maybe.

Midtown, Saves The Day, Weezer, The Ramones, Green Day. I associate pop-punk music with the warmer weather.
