Title: itt: ACT Tips.
Post by: Det in F♯ Major on March 05, 2009, 04:00:54 PM
So I'm taking the ACT next week and I've been too busy/lazy to go to any classes that give you strategies for testing, so I was wondering if you guys had any little secrets or anything that helps.

And please, I don't want dumbass posts in this thread like "LOL CHEET OF DA GUY NXT 2 U", please be mature.  akudood;

go as fast as you can, and you really should've taken it before this once or twice to get the right experience.

oh well you can always retake.

this is the first time they've offered it (for free)

is it true that after the second time you take it, they average the scores?

Try not to dawdle in the slightest, because the time limits are bitches. I've always been a bit of a slow test-taker because I get distracted, and that caused me to do badly on the science section because I only finished like 2/3 of it.

shit, i remember thats what fucked me up last year was the science section (on the PLAN, an ACT-like test)

to be honest, what im really the most nervous about is the writing. im a damn good writer, but the 30 time limit scares the shit out of me. it takes me a good 45 minutes to write an essay of my standards.

There's no calculus on the ACT.  It's just maths up to Precalculus.

Really, just practice.  I suggest practicing how to write a standard essay for the Writing portion.  With everything else, I can only mimic what Sparknotes says (http://www.sparknotes.com/testprep/books/act/chapter1.html).
