I think the problem is that the style of rock he does is more like nu-metal. Snoop Dogg did an album that had rap vocals, but bluesy country music. It worked well, probably because rap is fairly close to talking blues as is the style he did the instruments. Modern heavy alternative is a longer way from the genre both rap and rock come from.

If you haven't heard the singles he has released recently, they are fucking terrible. I understand he is trying to expand his core audience, but even as rock tracks, they suck.
