if you want cool easy reading get some sci-fi like Philip K Dick, or maybe some dense intellectual classics like Sartre or Kafka (I very much recommend both)
but most of all for the casual reader I would recommend Lovecraft, because his works are both masterfully written in post-gothic prose and captivating with their fantastical stories of horror and creatures from the deep
