does it hurt?
will it bleed if you get hit in the cauliflower part..?

The wrestlers in my high school would get them all the time.  I'm not sure if they're painful or not, but I'd imagine they would be when they first form.

Blood clots form underneath the skin, separating the cartilage from the connective tissue and causing the cartilage to die since the tissue is the cartilage's source of nutrients.  As a result the outer ear becomes swollen, roughly resembling cauliflower.

The skin affected is also much more prone to breaking from what I hear.
