Post by: Commander Fuckass on December 28, 2008, 01:59:49 PM
2009 is here in 3 days guys :o

Reflect on what you accomplished, liked or disliked about 2008 and post what you think you'll do in 09 to make yourself a little bit better.

HOWEVER, I do plan to learn programming.

This year has been the most influential and important year of my life. I can't imagine 2009 being more important... but whether I can imagine it or not doesn't matter. Whatever happens happens, and I will handle the rest of my life as I see fit.

Programming is still an valuable skill regardless of what part of game development you plan on working with.

Especially if you want to head your own projects like me. thumbup;

http://www.ibiblio.org/swaroopch/byteofpython/files/120/byteofpython_120.pdf

download this. it's what i tell everyone to start with if you've never programmed before

It won't teach you everything, but it'll give you a damn good understanding of most of the important stuff. After that you can buy/download bigger, better, and more complex books, but it's best to start with something simple like that book right there.

i'm not sure if i linked you to that before or not, but if i haven't use it

then after that, i suggest learning pygame because it's really a great place to start game development and it'll teach you most of the skills you need for bigger projects later

and i have a huge pdf for that too but i don't feel like uploading it unless someone actually needs it right now

This year was bland (technology didn't impress me, movies seemed to suck, etc), and I don't expect next year to be any better (despite the stuff that's going to be released/unveiled/etc next year).

+Made a lot of new friends while maintaining my old ones
+Got my license
+Got a summer job, made good money
+Got in the top 25 for swimming butterfly at my school
+Got a flashcart, turned into a filthy pirate
+Discovered good music, stopped liking linkin park suicide;
+Made varsity on HS swim for my second year in a row

-No progress on getting a girlfriend
-Spent too much time on internet/boyeh
-Didn't make varsity tennis
-Didn't get a car

Overall:
I did a great job on my social life, and am in better terms with a lot of people at my school, but my quest for finding somebody opposite sex to have a relationship with is failing horribly.

my best friend moved 3 hours away thumbdown;
...but i've still managed to get closer than ever to him and spend a lot of time with him thumbup;
made countless new friends, who i actually feel matter, and some of whom i've gotten incredibly close to thumbup;
i saw at least 40 different bands (notable bands include: iron maiden, mastodon, opeth, dream theater, buckethead, nine inch nails, metallica) thumbup;
i turned 16 thumbup;
but still continue to put off my driver's ed stuff thumbdown;
first real girlfriend/first kiss/first action thumbup;
...first real break-up and the subsequent crying myself to sleep (actually, that was just last week) thumbdown;

but it's mostly the sheer amount of little things that aren't worth mentioning in little thumbup/down bullet points that have made this year a big deal to me, all the little conversations and laughs I've had. I've probably enjoyed myself more this year than i have any year of my life - mostly because I've been getting out of the house a lot more.
Congratulations, Jono. :3

Like Steal said it was mostly the little things that made this a good year.

However some notable things were:

-Got my Jr License/ whatever your state calls the drivers license with certain restrictions on it. thumbup;
-Jr. Prom was fun thumbup;
-summer was party filled thumbup;
-increased play amongst women thumbup;
-some pretty good classes in school thumbup;
-maintained fairly good grades thumbup;
-got better at guitar thumbup;
-Dolphins finally a good team thumbup;
-got in trouble with the five-o, got no charges but had to have parents pick me up at the police station at 2:30AM thumbdown;
-in the same incident, friend got arrested, and is facing criminal charges thumbdown;
-some ass hit my car, parents are now less trusting of my driving ability thumbdown;
-it didn't cause any damage to my car besides some scratches, since it was a very low speed accident thumbup;
-some asshole stopped short, causing my friend to rear end him, and he totaled his car thumbdown;
-new years eve was fun thumbup;
