I'm obliged to be stage manager since I started sophomore year. I never auditioned for the musical because the practices seems too intense and lengthy for me. (and then I found out I have to go to fucking every rehearsal)
.
For the fall dramas though, I've been in the performances. This is my first year as a backstage crew member (there is no 'stage manager for those shows). Freshman year was "Our Town", sophomore was "The Marriage of Anansewah", and I didn't do anything last year. The marriage of anansewah was great, because we allpretended to be African and I got cornrows. giggle;
I'm so mad that I have NO pictures of it. But now I know a handful of african songs and I still have the costume, so I guess it's really not too bad.

I had an option when I first signed up, that was my choice. It wasn't until a few months in that I realized I'm not allowed to be stage manager AND have a life at the same time.
And the C-Wing is the art wing at my school. We say the C stands for Cult. It's basically the general reference for the choir, theater, and pothead artists.

Rest assured, if any actor even attempts to give me a command, they're getting a punch in the face.
During the musical, I know more about the show than
any of the actors. I can still recite at least 90% of Thoroughly Modern Millie and Fiddler. During production days, I can easily say every line, sing every song, and do every dance as they occur on stage. I don;t know how your play works, but every actor in our musical knows how high-up I am. I'm the one bossing them around. I can get people kicked out of the play in a snap, and I have (Too many missed rehearsals and no ad money, assholes).
And seriously,m our backstage crew has SO much fun during the musical. Maybe it's just the people we have, but we always have 4-5 cast members who decide to switch to backstage after their first show just because it looks so fun. And I get to be the head of that. Sounds fine to me.
I love acting, but I think it would be cool to do the behind the scenes stuff, too.

I honestly don't see anything fun about it. You wear black clothing and move things between scenes. You go to Salvation Army and buy our costumes for us. HAH. Yeah fucking right. Like I could care less whether there was a play or not. I'm in it for the free coffee, job references, and college recommendations. I'll live.
However, backstage crews bust their asses to make sure
your dream comes true. Don't you fucking dare criticize them like that to their face. And don't talk like that to me. I give congratulations to the cast where congratulations are deserved, like I gave you. I'm sure some of your crew congratulated you too. and you have the nerve to complain about them? Did you fucking read what I said? A TECHIE PUT THE LIGHTS UP TOO EARLY WHILE A SLOW TECHIE WAS ON STAGE. THE SLOW TECHIE, WITH THE LIGHTS UP SO THE AUDIENCE HAD FULL VIEW OF HIM, GOES "YOU WANT THIS HERE, RIGHT?"
I'm not going to thank someone for embarrassing us like that, no.
I have absolutely no problem acting around a desk in the wrong place, I don't expect much from techies, I'm an actor, that's what I do.
I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've had to cover up random doorbells or ringing phones, early fades, and late doorbells. I know what to do, I know how to improvise. But things like that shouldn't happen in the first place. You have a script in front of you, it's not like you have to memorize anything, all you have to do is push a button.

I highly,
highly, doubt this.
I was a "Techie" for the school band once because I didn't feel comfortable singing yet. They made me feel like shit because you know all I did was power point, organize songs, do paperwork, make sure everyone had their papers for their songs, write the chord downs, and plug in the amps and microphones, and test them like almost every week. God forbid if I made a typo or didn't show up because I had a doctors appointment or something.
So my point is that "techies" are of the same importance as the performers because without either one there cannot be a show.
What Hime said.
Also the audience is more important so fuck all of you.
