I need some new shit other than the CDs I'm getting for my birthday. If you feel I should expand my tastes, go for something that I don't generally listen to. If you have more of what I enjoy, send it my way. Recommend me any song, artist, album, etc. I dare you.
Lately, I've mostly been listening to:
Bob Dylan
Blackfield
Electric Light Orchestra
Led Zeppelin (as always)
Metallica
Dream Theater
Modest Mouse
Warren Zevon
Note that this is just an approximation of a few days. Obviously I've listened to more, but those are my top artists from like the past week. You can use that as a guide if you're going to recommend something similar. And of course you can always use my last.fm page for ideas, http://last.fm/user/kaaaaz.
Feel free to listen to something that I don't even normally listen to, though.
Pinback.

Cool stuff. I'm digging this Pinback. Not amazing, but good. The soft vocals kind of remind me of The Stone Roses...though of course that's the only resemblance they really bear with TSR.
They lack an "oomph" shall we say. But good, nevertheless. Thanks.

Devin Townsend. It's all you'll ever need. Try Synchestra, great ass album. That song I showed you just shows off the awesome emotion he puts into his vocals, not their best song but a great one.
listen to MGMT.
M83's Saturdays = Youth.

Cool stuff. I looked up the
Terria album and I like the sound of it...being atmospheric progressive metal and such. I'll look more into this.

listen to MGMT.
I'm trying, and I can sort of see myself liking them eventually, but right now they're falling short.

The RNRS are pretty decent, from what I've heard so far (Anthem and Funny Little Feeling).
Oh, and a side note, since you like Dropkick Murphys so much...I tried them recently and didn't like them. It's only making me feel more and more like punk is hardly accessible to me outside of The Clash and Ramones.

Which songs of theirs did you listen to?
If you don't have the album metropolis Pt 2 by Dream Theater, get it.
Also, the Mars Volta by default.
Also, Explosions in the Sky. Primarily the album All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone. It's really relaxing instrumental music.

I've tried The Mars Volta several times already, and cannot go any farther than calling them "okay."
Also no I don't have Metropolis Pt. 2 but I have a few songs from it.

Which songs of theirs did you listen to?
"Shipping Up to Boston" and "The Warrior's Code." I do not like the fusion of traditional Irish and punk/hard rock, nor do I like the vocalist.

Overture 1928, Through Her Eyes, and Strange Deja Vu
I don't actually have any Dream Theater albums yet...but when I get around to buying one, I was going to get
Images and Words first before going into any concept albums. Besides, Pt.1 is on that album if I recall.

Synchestra is a masterpiece. A great album to start off with.
Triumph, Gaia, Notes From Africa, N9, Nobody's Here, Mountain, Kingdom, Christeen, Voices in the Fan
Voices in the Fan sounds so much like a more heavy version of Pink Floyd.
Quote from: steal on November 27, 2008, 03:34:42 PM
yeah, Synchestra is a great album. I really need to get more of Devin Townsend's solo stuff, I only have Infinity, Synchestra, and Ziltoid, and honestly, Ziltoid sounds more like a sillier take on Strapping Young Lad than anything.
What's your favorite Devin Townsend album besides Synchestra?
Ocean Machine then Infinity.
Depends on the mood.
