Title: Our hamster died
Post by: Samus Aran on September 16, 2008, 06:47:02 PM
Normally I wouldn't be sad, because I didn't even take care of it and it mostly belonged to my sisters, but the email my mom sent me about it made me sad.

QuoteChewy died today.  It was very sad.  This morning I went in there and he had really saggy neck skin, so I knew he was dehydrated.  I got a little dropper and gave him some water, which he drank.  But by the time I got home from work, I knew it was over.  I picked him up, he was unresponsive, and actually gasping for air.  He was so cold, so I just held him and covered him with my hands.  He kept gasping and I cried and told him I loved him, then asked God to not let him suffer so much.  He died in my hands within the next couple of minutes. Right before he died his little ears came up again like they used to be.

It makes me sad to think of my mom sitting there crying with the dying little hamster in her hands, and even sadder to think of how my sisters must have reacted.

The dog I had before my little shitzu pepper, Nalah was her name, she got really sick, she couldn't walk right, we tried to keep her hydrated and what not, but then my parents told me we couldn't help her, we had to put her down... :(

Her brother, Simba, who was owned by our former next door neighbors ran away, and is more than likely dead too. :(

I lost a dog not long ago. The same sort of situation. I still cry when I think of her. :(

We had a cat named wally and a dog named Bell. Wally got hit by a car and we had to put Bell to sleep. I liked them both, but I can't say I was attached enough to them to cry over it.

Aw, even I felt bad after reading it. :'(
I've felt sad because of pet deaths, but none have made me cry yet. However, if my bird dies I'll be in tears for months. :'(

Both my cats are getting kind of old, but they'll be around for a few more years.

I, uh, wouldn't really care that much if they died.  doodhuh;

This stray cat we adopted recently got hit and died. We liked her alot, but our first cat wasn't too sad to see her go. She's lost any source of motivation in her life, though.

My friend went to Japan with a lacrosse team and he said they were partying at some place and some Jap was drunk and fell off a balcony and one of the lacrosse kids help hold him up and apparently he was bleeding everywhere, and then the guy died in his arms, and so the lacrosse kid spent the night crying about it when they went back to the hotel room.

when i was younger we had this big old dog who was like as sweet as can be

we kept him outside though because he shed so he mostly just hung out in the garage. but whenever i went out there he would always bark at me until i went over and started petting him. and if you got close enough to his face he would lick your face nonstop, he was really sweet, but we had to put him down when he got too old. I didnt understand much about the concept back then and wasnt evern hurt that much, but nowadays sometimes i think about it and i miss him T.T

but i dread the day the my dog i've had since 6th grade has to be put down, it makes me sad to think about it because i grew up with him =[ hes only 5 though so i guess there isnt much to worry about yet.

My first cat ginger ran away before i was too old to even remember her, but Freddy died when I was about 9- that was very sad for me.

I've had a lot of pets, so I'll just mention the ones that really affected me:
I accidentally murdered my guinea pig when  i was little. Yeah, I broke it's back and it had to be put to sleep.
The next one i got died 3 days after it came home.
I've had, at this point in my life, hundreds of mice and gerbils. I always cry when one is dying or has died, but... yeah.
I had a dwarf rabbit that i got for my 10th birthday, it died in about a week from too much lettuce. Nobody told us too many veggies are bad for a rabbit's digestive system.
I had a pinkie that I "rescued" from a  track meet (where they wanted to throw it in the woods). It died after two days straight of me hand-feeding it.
There was a pet lizard I had who actually laid an egg, but I had no male to fertilize it, and she died without live food, cause the pet store lied to me.
And finally, the most devastating pet death i ever had. My rabbit, whom I had had for 5 years (got her in 2001), died really horribly. She had had bad fleas for years, and no matter what we did (including consulting the vet), we just couldn't get rid of them. The only option was to build an outdoor hutch- which would couldn't do due to money problems and a big stray dog problem. (the hutch next door had been torn down only a few months earlier.)  So, we had no choice but to have her living with fleas for years. I would comb her constandly to get rid of as many fleas as possible, but it wasn't that easy. I once took a warm washcloth and rubbed it across her back, hoping to wash her off a bit (her white fur was just a bit dingy), and the blood smeared all across her coat in a streak. I knew it was bad, but there really wasn't nothing I could do. One day I noticed she was lying down weird, and couldn't stand up. It was quite obvious she was dying. I put her on a towel in my lap and just pet her until she died, at which point it seemed all of the hundreds of fleas immediately came to the surface of her fur.

That honestly scarred me for life, and I still have nightmares about her sometimes.
