by first I mean true audition, something outside of school
What happened was, I was on the toilet and the Dean of Arts & Sciences of my local community college called me up and asked me if I wanted to be in their production of High School Musical. I don't know anything about HMS, but I said OK anyway because I need to build up some experience, and working on High School Productions aren't really going to cut it.
She had said the word "meeting" several times and I assumed I would be sitting down with her and the director talking about various things.
I get to her office the next day, and I waited. This guy wearing a black coat comes in and asks me if I was there for the auditions, I thought to myself "OH GOD" but I said yes anyway and followed him to the auditorium.
I waited forever inside the auditorium waiting for the casting director to get there. He introduced himself as joey something and he gives me an audition sheet. I didn't feel like half the stuff I was in needed mentioning, as they were just crappy plays my teacher wrote.
I give him the sheet, and he asks me to sing a song. "OH GOD" I thought, but I just started singing This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) by Talking Heads and we get on to some dialog he had prepared.
He said he'd have the cast list up by friday, so we'll see how it goes.

..You know, you have to start somewhere. Not everyone immediately hop on a bus to LA and make it big in Hollywood. Plus, who's to say Sid would want to do this his entire life? He may figure out that it is not the career path for him.
By the way, there were no skaters in HSM.

And I can tell you don't know shit about theatre, because you can be an extra in a movie or be in an international thespian troupe or be a part of a real theatre.

Unfortunately, I don't play such a huge part in the audition process. My only job is to introduce myself at the audition meeting and tell the prospective actors/actresses that if they need help, I'm available to answer questions or run lines. Oh, and then I need to enter the e-mails of everyone who auditioned into this one giant e-mail list. It's usually 150+ people. Not fun.
But other than that, it's really nothing special.
