iPhone costs $200 plus 2 years of service, and a new computer I want to build will have 1.2TBs of HDD space, 512MB Video card, TV Tuner Card and 2.4GHz AMD Athlon. An iPhone is an iPhone. Though choice people

Well, you can take an iPhone anywhere, and to anything like on a computer anywhere. But a desktop sits at my house, and I can only uses it when I'm home

I'd go for the PC first, as you mentoined the iPhone 3G is relatively cheap, so it shouldn't take you too long to save up for it.
