Title: 30 bucks and hour
Post by: The artist formally known on July 08, 2008, 09:52:40 PM
I just found out that is how much I'm getting paid for a job I did for my family's company.

We dug some holes in like 100 degree weather. I thought I'd get 9 bucks and hour but since there is some law to make it fair for unions to compete with our wages, they force a company to pay their employees on certain jobs more money.

Pretty sweet

focus: whats your wage/past wages and the job you do/had to do

On second thought, I wouldn't say I'm jobless. I sew things. Sometimes it's something someone will ask me to sew, like "Hey, I'll give you $20 if you turn this fabric into seat covers for that chair" and sometimes I'm bored so I just make things and sell them online.

they're really lame things like cosplay items and pretty fleece hats, but for some reason they've always sold at really high prices.  O_0 I should actually do it more often, I could probably be wealthy. Last hat I made cost $0.50, took an hour to make, and sold for $15.

Make me a Link costume and I'll buy it if it's under $50 and it fits.

Easiest way is for you to make it, I'd give you my dimensions and you'd put it on eBay and I'd just buy it from that and everything.

When I film in the summer they pay me $9 an hour.

Then in the school year I work at a dog kennel I get $7 an hour. When I use to work a pretzel shop I got paid $6.50 an hour.

Only job I had was a paper carrier for the local newspaper. Got $100 a month. Right now, I have an unofficial job. I just do landscape work for this one doctor office and it nets me between $40 and $100 a month. Not bad at all for working one day a week for 2-3 hours.

I'm not sure, but I think I might be getting paid $9.20 an hour. Or maybe even $10 an hour. I work at a state park as a field worker.

I work full time (40 hours a week) and can work overtime now since I'm 18.  caterpie; Not only that, but I worked on the fourth of july, which gave my doubletime (about $20 an hour) PLUS a little overtime! I can't wait to get my first paycheck in a few weeks.

My first job was traveling to various carnivals and events with a food vendor.  The hours were horrible, and terribly illegal. But I went through with it.
I worked anywhere from 8 to 16 hours a day, and I was only 13. The owner just told people I was family so it was "ok".
I worked up to 70 hours a week some weeks.

I currently work at a local Chinese restaurant and don't even get paid $7 an hour, and I hate it. I've worked there for nearly 2 years, and it's pathetic.
I've applied at a few other places and haven't heard anything yet. :(

I've learned from experience that you need to know people in order to get a job. That's the only way I have my current job, and my past job.

So ask a few friends if they're parents could get you a job somewhere. References are everything.

That's the only reason I got those two jobs.

The vendor was good friends with my father. And we've known the Chinese people that own the restaurant for nearly 20 years.
I'm going to keep applying other places, though.

Beginning in 2008 minimum wage is 8 bucks here. I haven't found a real paying job yet, since I'm too young. But right now I'm job hunting, and I'm planning to sell stuff once I get into middle school. In 6th grade, I only made like 5 bucks total from selling marbles to the idiots at school who buy them. In 4th grade I profited about 10-20 bucks from selling merchandise like pencils, erasers, and junk to kids. As for any unpaying job, I've volunteered at my brother's school in the summer and now I'm volunteering there again and at this "foodbank" place where I write on there record cards and bag food for poor people and hobos. Waste of time, but I want a job there and so does my mom.

It does indeed matter on who. and not necessarily what you know. The first job I had entailed scanning data sheets for four hours a day in my own cubicle playing on the computer and listening to music. It was from 9-5 and payed 1o.o/hour, I did that for two summers straight. Only four positions for this were open and all of the four people applying there knew people or had parents working in that firm. In my case my mother was senior to my supervisor and good friends with her. The second job I have now I got because I know both the head manager and the chef at the restaurant; our families have know each other since before they even opened the restaurant.

So yeah, you gotta know and talk to people.

Getting jobs is mostly about references and people skills. I got my current job because my mom works for our schools districts main offices, and is president of the secretaries union, so when she asked if I could get a job, no one said no. My old job my reference worked against me, as my brother was one of the worst employees they had, but they gave me a chance anyway because the manager liked me.

I can get selfish, be a bitch, be anything like anyone else. Not everything is from a 'helping' perspective. A lot of what I do and say is. But there are people who I don't care to help. Mostly I have learned to see the good in everything, however small it may be. Just because it's a survival technique.

And I can joke and have fun in a normal manner. Not everyone needs help.  powerofone;
