Why is it so strange to not have heard of it? Was it more popular than Mario or something?
It's a computer game that pretty much every school had available when we were all younger. Hell, a lot of schools still have it.
Plus, a lot of us just had it as an early computer game on our own computers back in the day.
Everyone except you played it.

I'm fairly sure my elementary school computers didn't have it installed.
At the least, I know that in the very few times my classes went to the computer room during elementary school, we never played a game called Oregon Trail. All we used computers for was activities related to the FCAT (Florida's standardized testing) like practice problems.
I would always name my companions people I hated and would purposely let them die :|

What is this Oregon Trail?
Pioneers traveled across it to settle new parts of the United States during the 19th century. It was also a really gay computer game.

I never had a computer until around 1999/2000, but I played it back in elementary school about twice. Hell, our school had a grand total of 20 computers yet I played it.
