I hate them. Is there something wrong with me?
I can't fathom how something as stupid as "Kokomo" became so popular. "Fun, Fun, Fun" is like "I Get Around" only worse. Christ, most of their hits sound exactly the same.
And oh god, don't even get me started on "Little Surfer Girl" or whatever it's called.
I hope I'm not the only one here who hates The Beach Boys.
I don't really hate them...
but Pet Sounds is fucking overrated. monkees > beatch boys
No. The Beach Boys are a musical icon and their songs are soothing and cheer me up when I'm down.
How dare a classic rock fan like yourself hate the Beach Boys

sir, you have made me decide to download some beach boys songs... eventually.
I WANNA TAKE YOU DOWN TO KOKOMO
Pet Sounds is one of the best albums ever made.
Let it be known that I was exaggerating when I said I "hate" them, but I still don't like them very much. And I don't find Pet Sounds particularly interesting.

I had to go to a concert of theirs with my friends >.<...I mean they're not terrible, but I don't see them being that good.

You'd never heard that song before? doodthing;
It's one of their best tunes.
yes of course i've heard it. my mom used to listen to an oldies radio station when i was like, 5, so i heard all the oldies classics from the beatles to aretha franklin, basically.
I hadn't heard it in awhile, and just a moment ago I realized OMFG DIS ROX.
Pet Sounds is the shit. badass
We always used to listen to them on the way to the
beach
I think they're ok, not something I'd listen to everyday, but still pretty good every once in while
I just finished a torrent of Pet Sounds.
Gonna listen to it later. Busy listening to BOC.
Yeah, the beach boys are definently great and pet sounds certainly isn't remotely overrated. At the time of its release, it got a bit of a cold review mainly because it was so different than the generic "car, sun and girl" forumula that made them so huge. The band itself, though, was basiacally a direct product of Brian wilson's twisted genius. The man had problems. Pet sounds was the intellectual release he needed; insanity followed.
Plus, kokomo sucks and mike love is a grade "A" dick. Cheers!

I totally agree. Mike Love sucks, but Brian Wilson is the man.
Yeah. did you read his "self written biography"? I think a certain doctor landy may have "helped" him out a bit. It's a great read though.

Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums of all time and Good Vibrations is one of the best singles of all time.
Everything else by them is very forgettable, but Pet Sounds can not get enough praise.

It got number two on Rolling Stone's top 500 albums list.
Sure it's one of the greatest... but not a top ten album.
And you are right about Good Vibrations. God I love that song. GOOD GOOD GOOD GOOD VIBRATIONS
Yeah, I dont mind rolling stone per se, but Top lists are usually just a matter of opinion unless it's based off of sales or the such.

Egh, well I'm not sure if you can necessarily go that far. They've got some very catchy stuff. Juvenile at times, but catchy and put together very well. Heroes and villians isn't bad..........

I can at least respect "I Get Around," but nothing else comes to mind at the moment that isn't on
Pet Sounds.
Well, the obvious ones.....
-fun, fun,fun
-surfin' usa
-Help me rhonda
-little deuce coup
-shut down
-barbara ann
-dont worry baby
-california girls

Barbara Ann is okay, as is California Girls. I really don't like Fun, Fun, Fun very much. Surfin' USA is okay, I guess. I don't remember hearing the others.

I agree that they're catchy and well put together, theyw rote some great pop tunes, but they're nothing special.
Keith moon of the who always wanted to be a surf drummer so they did a cover of barbara ann in "the kids are alright" (dont know if you like the who or not) but I always thought this was funny.

Well, considering the time period, they were. People naturally flocked to the care free "cars and girls" vibe they threw out. Plus, they established surf music as a mainstream medium.

I wouldn't really say "surf music" is a mainstream genre, but I agree that a lot of their songs were products of the time.
Well, it was fairly nonexistant on the radio at the time.
In all honesty, if brian wilson hadn't gone through and cranked out "pet sounds" We could probably dismiss them as just another early sixties pop band.

Hahah! That's fucking hilarious.
True fact. Keith Moon got kicked out of the studio while The Who recorded vocals because his voice sucked so much.

If I ever find a copy I'll check it out, but I'm not interested enough to search for one. I'm afraid it will ruin the album for me. Silly, I know, but Quadrophenia is probably my favorite album by The Who and one of my favorite of all time.
It's a bit different than the album. Probably the biggest change iis what the plot's focus is. The album is all about the four personalities. The movie has little focus on that, it's mainly about the mods vs. rockers.
sum magzine ranked it the 30-something-th best british film ever.

Really? Well, at least they changed it up. Tommy is really closely based on the album and suffers for it.
I think it's just kinda hard to interpret an album into a movie. I saw The Wall and it doesn't make sense unless you read a plot summary in advance. Quadrophenia's good thing is that its plot is looser-ly related to the album, yeah.
BTW, if you wanna watch Quadrophenia, some guy uploaded it to YouTube. It's an alright movie. Fucking hilarious to see British teen agers singing along to My Generation at a party with their British accents. And when the main character sings You Really Got Me with his accent, it's funny too.
They are awesome. My dad has all their albums.
