The difference between Rap fans and people who like other types of music.
Rap fans know how to respect the tastes of others; just look at NSider. It was the rock lovers who trolled the rap thread with "lol rap sux", how often did you see the rap fans go "rox sux u fagit" they would just state that they don't like it.
also 2Pac is better than you will ever possibly be.
So?

Rap fans do that too, just not to such a high degree. You know, the whole "rock is nothing but screaming" argument and stuff like that.
In the end, what matters is that everyone should be able to have their own tastes without bashing other people for their different tastes.

Unfortunately, a lot of people who hate rock lump all kinds of it into one.

They did every once in a while.

Like the dumbasses who lump true art from JMT, Immortal Technique, Nas, and plenty of other great artists in with shit like Soulja Boy, 50 Cent(though he's not nearly as bad as the snap people), Dem Franchize Boyz, and D4L

but their music wasn't primarily screaming
my primary argument is the actual musical merit of rap

and what is that, the "I don't like it, so it's not music" principle?

my argument doesn't exist, because if i don't like it, i don't listen to it, and i don't bother arguing with people over music

well I could probably write a metaphorical novella that expounds upon the ideas of musical creation/theory/principle/etc, but it would still be mostly opinion and that's not going to get us anywhere doodella;

so i take it you're just forfeiting the argument

So, basically there is no reason to claim that it has no "musical merit" other than the fact that you personality don't like it.
I haven't heard any death metal that I've liked but I'm not going to claim that it sucks or that it isn't real music. Of course it is.

Are you going to post actual reasons for claiming it's not music, or just avoid it?

Death metal is one type of music I truly can't consider music.
As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't have a melody, or any type of meaning instrumentally or lyrically, it's not music.

But it does. Instrumentally great. Lyrically, I really haven't listened to the words because I don't really like the style of the vocals, so I can't make the call.
It is still music.
