Title: Do you Like Windows?
Post by: ZGDK on October 08, 2007, 06:41:17 AM
Honestly I hate Windows. I mean I love the computer I'm using but that's only because my desktop doesn't look like this:

But why should I have to pay extra to protect my computer from hackers and viruses.

Nobody really ever does expect the Spanish Inquisition. You'd think that would've changed by now.

And I don't hate Windows, but I'm not particularly fond of it. I want a Macbook.

At least you could come up with a good reason to derate Windows.

I mean, come on. You can either pay the few hundred dollars to get perfect protection on a Windows machine, or you can pay the extra $1000-$1500 for a Mac.

There are so many things to derate Windows on, but you pick a moronic reason. psyduck;

So, you're used to running installers (that are able to do any modifications to your operating system) to extract shitloads of unnecessary files to a directory not accessible or even known by the mainstream audience? You're using to having to look at a shit-ugly luna theme with a scattered application launcher that includes subdirectories upon subdirectories just to launch a single program?

You can make a decent computer that will run everything well except for games for about $400 maybe, if you know how to build computers. If you want a Mac it'll cost at least $1000 for a decent Mac that will do everything besides play games.

I can get a PC that will run every computer game at the highest quality, maybe even Crysis at the lowest quality for $1000

Oh for...

Vista is shit. No doubt about it. Just, everything before it, and eerything after it is gonna be better. Hell, even Windows Millenium edition was better than it now. I still use ME, too, and it actually RUNS.

But, if you're good, you can get some really awesome MBTF's out of even ME. I managed years without a restart, it was never necessary.

I use Windows XP on two computers, ME on one, and our Laptop has Vista, which I despise, and since I don't support pirating OS's, I am trying to put Linux on it, but Bassir is being a sonofabitch and won't help me.

I hate how everyone is told that Windows is so loaded with error messages. I've actually never gotten an actual error except for "Not Responding". Other things were confirmation prompts and the like, which actually occur way more in Ubuntu where I needed a password for just about anything psyduck;
I've never gotten Blue Screen except for once when I tried.

I like Windows. It runs any programs that I have any intent of using, supports drivers for all my stuff, has an organization that I like (I prefer Windows, Documents and Settings, and Program Files over bin, boot, dev, etc, home, initrd, lib, etc)

Windows should include way more drivers, but I'm just glad it supports everything. I can't use my wireless internet card, set my screen resolution above 800x600, or use audio without installing drivers on Windows while Ubuntu includes drivers for all of those psyduck;
My printer doesn't support anything other than Windows and my graphics and wireless mouse work partially in Ubuntu (mouse can't detect battery level and the screen only goes up to 1152x864)

I've never needed drivers for my Bluetooth adapter, corded mouse, corded keyboard, SD card, or those USB mass storage things.

Almost everything I use for my PC also does. The only thing that doesn't is an old scanner that I don't even use anymore. My current one (part of a printer/fax/scan combo) worked instantly, as does my wireless mouse, wireless internet card, USB hub, tablet, and um...I can't think of anything else I put in it.

My only problem with it now is that all my computers that haven't been bashed in somehow by my sisters are too new for it.

psp is cool too. wish i had a keyboard. 30~40 wpm on a keyboard 5 on a psp.
i'm actually have vista sitting on 4.5G of ram.
i've olny had 1 or 2 problems from a bad program i wrote, lego star wars, and scratched CDs.
vista eliminates most of the fatal errors of XP and 98. but you will need a 2G ram(4G recomended).
most of all, windows is super expandable. internet downloads and such.

You're retarded. Most problems with Vista are because AMD, NVidia, and Creative need to get off their asses and start making decent drivers.

And you're fucking stupid if you honestly think ME is better. Vista doesn't taint hardware like ME does, and it doesn't crash every 10 seconds. And if you're trying to be funny, stop. You're worse than Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia.

Are you jealous because you didn't know that ME, like most typical Windows systems has a max specs limit? Seriously, I know those two guys fucking suck, I know Vista fucking sucks, I HAVE TO PUT UP WITH VISTA EVERY FUCKING DAY NOW.

And drivers are out. Hardly a problem.

What the fuck are you talking about? Max specs limit? I could install ME on this computer and it'll run. The only limit I can think of is the limits of FAT32, which has nothing to do with ME's instability.

And no. NVidia and AMD's drivers suck, and Creative has yet to release X-Fi drivers.

Been done, been done, been done. I've seen it already.

ME's instability is due to something beyond my understanding, all I understand is it works when I use it, and you're fucking stupid to try and say I'm lying.

Seen what already?

Even if it (somehow, which I'm really doubting) works for you, it doesn't change the fact that ME is an incredibly shitty OS and Vista isn't. I've worked on hundreds of computers and all the ones with ME were incredibly unstable.

And you've yet to show me any reason why Vista sucks.

Do you even know how software develops? A beta or alpha would be even more unstable. Unlike you, I actually know what I'm talking about. I've worked on hundreds of computers, set up and maintained a few networks, and am A+ Certified. Actually, no, with ME, it was quite the opposite, and honest to god, I never had a problem with ME.

Now we have a Vista laptop, and it will not work.

And yeah, you're trying to insult me, and it's getting annoying. If you're not going to listen, but instead, pick out nonexistant flaws from my argument, go right ahead, I'm not stopping you. You keep thinking you're the smartest asshole here.

Then answer me this, where did you get this mystical alpha/beta of ME? And why was it not selected as the final release? What's wrong with your Vista laptop? For all you know, it's a hardware issue.

Flaws don't even begin to describe your argument. Hell, bullshit doesn't go far enough.

I prefer Linux over Windows, can't say anything about OS X (isn't it a new OS now?) since I've never used it. Windows' biggest problem is security, Ubuntu fixes that by not allowing you to login as root (by default, you can change it). Although Windows has way more programs, Then again you could use a vm or WINE on Ubuntu and get most Windows programs to work on Ubuntu.

"New features," with parentheses, means they did jack shit.

If you compare the progression of Unix and *Nix systems to Windows, you'll see Microsoft is slacking. A new version of Direct X, Internet Explorer, a glossy button, and a half assed flip really don't stand up to what Apple and open source teams have introduced over the years.
