I cannot for the life of me remember how to figure out the right place to play over a rhythm using a mode.

Really? The hardest thing for me to learn was making smooth chord changes. I still mess up a lot too. My hand just goes crazy when I try to switch chords quickly sometimes.
The hardest thing for me was trying to make people's heads not explode when I play because I'm so good.
I have trouble plucking the strings in the right order.
