NEW NEW ENGLAND STYLE SERVED IN A SOURDOUGH BREAD BOWL = FUCKEN AMAZING
I grew up with manhattan, so now the NE variety is just weird to me...
Thick and creamy. thumbup;
Manhattan is fucking gross.
Never tried it.
Manhattan clam chowder is actually the white, thick kind, and New England clam chowder is actually the tomato-y one. This was cleared up on an episode of Good Eats. caterpie;
I like both, though the thick, white one is always my favorite.
I've only had it once, and I can't remember how it tasted. emo;
I know that I ate the whole bowl of it, so it couldn't have tasted too bad. flower;
I can't remember if it was the red kind or the white kind either...

WHAT
MY LIFE HAS BEEN A LIE ALL THIS TIME, THEN
Also, I just looked on Wikipedia to make sure, and it says Manhattan is the red kind.
QuoteManhattan clam chowder has clear broth, plus tomato for red color and flavor. In the 1890s, this chowder was called "Coney Island clam chowder" and "Fulton Fish Market clam chowder." The name "Manhattan clam chowder" became attached in the early 1900s. Restaurants typically serve New England or Manhattan chowder, but not both.

B-b-b-but Campbell's said Manhattan was red... And they can't be wrong... They fed my soul delicious, watered down Chicken Soup
Damn, I want some clam chowder right now. I want it in a sourdough breadbowl, too. Also, some oyster crackers on the side just for the hell of it.
