Title: reaper's pc build
Post by: The artist formally known on November 09, 2015, 08:28:10 PM
Here is my build in progress, refining all the parts and trying to cut the cost down a bunch (ps this build is terrible so far):
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/QpxCTW

I will run Win10 and dabble in Linux, some requirements:
Raid large hdds, at least 2x 4TB drives, lots of extra HDD slots in case
For use as home server

Update #1:
-Included DVD/CD burner, hdd, and monitor I already have
-Increased PSU to 600W with a reduced price, hopefully as quite as the reviews say
-Fairly expensive case added, probably need to get something cheaper

Update #2:
-Minimized cost of ram
-Included other already owned items such as speakers
-Cheaper tower

Update #3:
-Updated motherboard
-Updated PSU

Good point, haven't settled on many of the parts but I plan on doing a power supply calculation before purchasing. I also am very interested in a quiet PSU since I've had far too many noisy, rattling PSUs in the past.

I've had both, I typically prefer top mounted but that isn't something I usually put effort into caring about. Good point.

do you need so good GPU for server? confuseddood;

you can get H97 motherboard for the CPU like this:
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h97anniversary

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1650gts3x
this is a good PSU but it is not a modular PSU
good efficience and good components n_n

I ended up building it and without the GPU at all. runs nicely for such an inexpensive build. Except it crashed before I could back it up and I went ahead with a reformat.

Back up your OSs boys  doodthing;

No raid card. I'm using the built in Windows RAID support. RAID 1 to help prevent a HDD failure. Have 4TB of media raided together. Still looking for solutions for my temporary local network file sharing setup, Window's home groups and networks are both pretty crummy not being able to access sometimes.
