The whole Southern IL University basketball team got famous when it whupped Bobby Knight's Texas Tech in 2002 and the NCAA bigwigs all had to learn the word "Saluki".

I went hunting for other celebs of Southern Illinois University and found a number of surprises. Already  knew about Dick Gregory and Dennis Franz...but Melissa McCarthy? Jim Belushi? I thought Jim stayed in Chicagoland, but it's true that Carbondale is called "Little Chicago". I suppose something had to explain how he knew about Menard Penitentury for the Blues Brothers.  Anyhoo...a bunch of soap opera actors were Salukis (meh).  One gal who was James Garner's love interest on a Hallmark Channel production "Medal of Honor" went to my high school: Judy Ivy..er..JUDITH Ivy.

Daryl Jones of the Rolling Stones was a Saluki, as was sexy David Selby, and Richard Roundtree.
