If they can't afford that they shouldn't have a dog imo

I don't really care about the law but of 34 fatal dog attacks in the US last year, 28 were pit bulls. It's not like these laws come outta nowhere

well this is more stringent than similar american city ordinances
montreal needs to be broken up even more

Under the law, people who own dogs deemed pit bulls have until March to undergo a criminal background check and pay $150 for a special permit. Their dog will have to be sterilized, vaccinated and microchipped â€"as well as muzzled and on a 4-foot leash at all times in public.

But pit bull-type dogs currently in city shelters need not apply. Under the ban â€" which loosely covers American pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers and Staffordshire bull terriers â€" no dog considered a pit bull can be adopted from Montreal shelters.

"For dogs that don't have an 'owner' on the day of the passing of the legislation, the way the legislation is drafted, the dogs have to be euthanized," Alanna Devine, of the Montreal SPCA, told The Dodo last week.

Just not right.

This law pertains to any dog deemed to be a pit bull. Mixed breeds included. I have had 4 pit bulls or pit mixes and not one of them shows any sign of aggression.

The ban got suspended

Meanwhile, Ontario has already had pitbulls banned from the entire province since 2005
