you know, berserk becomes substantially more palatable when the very fist episode is viewed in its proper chronological place as the very last

i went back and rewatched the first ep after we finished 25, and while it still doesn't nearly provide a satisfying conclusion to the original series, it at the very least implicitly answers some of the bigger questions left by that egregious cliffhanger and establishes a rock solid foundation for what(ever) comes next

rewatching the first ep after witnessing the events that precede it is certainly more fulfilling for viewers than ' LMAO LITERALLY EVERYBODY GETS MURDERAPED; CUT TO BLACK LMFAO'

the viewer can take a shred of solace in knowing that not absolutely everything was necessarily lost and there may still be an avenue for retribution, even if the whens and hows remain indefinitely unknown (at least until the 2016 anime)

berserk's first episode is actually more like the first episode of an arc 2[/spoiler]

also the catalyzing event for griffith's eventual descent into demonhood is kinda stupid

i don't know if maybe the pacing of that transitional phase immediately after guts' departure is better handled by the manga but it feels outrageously underdeveloped in the anime[/spoiler]

[spoiler]the ending might have been a bit more tolerable if they knew they were doing a sequel series soon after, but seeing as the sequel came nearly 20 years later means that that's all most people got. Unacceptable really...[/spoiler]

personally i'm pretty stoked to rewatch this, i thought ufotable did a great job with it.
