i don't buy the argument that the smash games are uninspired. the formula just got boring. and the only way to make it interesting is to do something totally new and redo the whole system, which will make everyone mad.

brawl had a ton of heart put into it but sakurai ruined it with his anti-competitive play thinking. and smash 4 is just stale, but how do you fix that, there have been no new ideas in party fighters in ages.

tbh, I wouldn't mind them implementing PlayStation all stars combo system and general fighting system into a smash game, but of course, keep the knocking off edge scoring instead of that games reliance on supers.

Nintendo just streamed the indies presentation. A summary:

* Yooka-Laylee Trailer
* Overcooked port coming with all the DLC
* Stardew Valley is coming to Switch and will get multiplayer features before any other platform
* Other stuff

Apparently there's a game called War Groove that is a very blatant Advance Wars clone in almost every way. They have basically the same unit types, the same building types, the same battle screen visuals, the same COs mechanic, etc. The main difference is that there's a bit of fantasy theme to it (even though they're keeping tanks, helicopters, submarines, etc).

honestly? i find this downright respectable. a lot of good shit and a lot of good NEW shit. a lot coming out both this year and in the coming months. why the fuck didn't nintendo play this up at the reveal? was it the japanese audience? i would have been hyped as shit instead of FUCK THIS SUCKS if they revealed this stuff in their presentation.

I usually don't care much for Nintendos gimmicks but this one fits me pretty well. My gf likes gaming with me but our options are limited based on whether we are hanging out in the living room or in the bedroom. So with this I can just set it up in the living room and we can take the tablet with us to the bedroom. It's especially nice that if you just have an outlet you can basically play indefinitely on the tablet
