applesauce

is it wrong to have someone you know kind of get you an interview or get your resume a little extra attention or whatever?

I'm feeling very conflicted about this

If you're not qualified, or as qualified, then definitely. Otherwise, probably.

Pretty sure that's the whole point of references, recommendations, and the "how did you hear about this position?" field on job applications that give the option "Current employee" or "Employee referral".

If it's something in a professional sense there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. You've built professional relationships and you're using them.

It's a bit more shitty if it's something like "my completely inexperienced  and unqualified son/nephew needs a job. Take a look at this resume or you're fired. who cares if there are 30 other applicants who have the right qualifications with years of experience?"
Even in that. If it's something like 'by the way my brother is looking for a job. do you mind giving him a shot at an interview? He'd be a really good fit' that is perfectly fine tho.
