I know nothing of Utena so I dunno that movie's relation to the Utena series.

Perfect Blue is a film by Satoshi Kon. It's his first film, a rather dark psychological thriller. Its closer to his series we watched, Paranoia Agent, than it is to his other films we watched, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paprika. Damn, we've watched this much Kon stuff? Anyway, Perfect Blue is one of his better films if you ask me, it's fantastic.

Princess Mononoke is a modern-ish Ghibli classic, it's sort of obligatory and that's for a good reason: it's a beautiful film. It's a much more serious film than Spirited Away, and in a lot of ways a more meaningful film I guess. Either way, this film is one of Hayao Miyazaki's many masterpieces.

Castle in the Sky is a much older Ghibli classic, and I find it even better than Princess Mononoke. In fact, Spirited Away is the only Miyazaki film I like more than it. It's more dated, but it's got the classic Miyazaki charm and magic. Again, one of his more serious (not that Miyazaki films are ever TOO serious) films. Amazing stuff.

I didn't vote for it, but Grave of the Fireflies is another Ghibli classic, but it's not directed by Miyazaki. I find it a tad bit overrated, but trust me, it's still a fantastic film. Just don't go into it expecting to cry your eyes out or something, because people really exaggerate how emotional this movie is. Still pretty damn sad though. It's about kids trying to live after their village was firebombed during the course of WWII. No fantastical setting or wondrous magic here like the above two films.

Nausicaa is I believe Miyazaki's first film. Magic, fantasy, the whole deal. It's more dated, especially when it comes to character design, and it's got a definite 80s feel to its sound design as well. I don't really know why this is one of his higher rated films, to be honest. It's pretty great, but it's one of my least favorite of his works.

idk cybersix or moomin (lol moomin)

Lupin III is fuckin Lupin III, so it's probably great, and I've heard nothing but good things. And again, Miyazaki directed this, just as he directed many of the best episodes in the various Lupin series. I've yet to see this myself, so I can't really say much. I doubt you'd dislike it if you like Lupin at all though.

oh wow that moomin film really is related to those moomins, i thought the name was just a coincidence

considering the source material, i'm sure it's a total kiddy flick

Hm, from Kon's stuff, I'm trying to remember if I liked Paranoia Agent of Millennium Actress/Paprika more.  I know I gave Millennium Actress and eight, but I feel they are all at a pretty similar seven-eight rating. :'(

I'll probably watch it.

Does 'serious' mean slow and plodding? goowan

Well, I don't go into many movies expecting to cry, even if others have called them emotional.

lol so much Miyazaki .

And would it be beneficial to watch the seires?  confuseddood;

good kiddy or god kill me now kiddy

Samus Aran

Serious does not really mean slow and plodding, no. Miyazaki is too good of a director for that. Usually. goowan

It just means there's more at stake for the characters and the scenarios are more srs, as opposed to just a girl's coming of age story (Spirited Away) or a bunch of random silly things happening (Totoro).

also idk what kind of kiddy moomin is, i just know it's a children's book or something and i'm pretty sure the anime tv series is very much a show for children.

Samus Aran

oh and also i don't know if it would benefit to watch any of the Lupin series first, i mean every episode is basically the same thing

Lupin and his buddies try to steal something, Zenigata tries to arrest him, Fujiko betrays Lupin, etc. etc. and then there's often some mildly serious plot involved with the thing they want to steal or the people they meet that Lupin and his buddies help resolve in the end. or some bad guy they have trouble defeating.

so i mean i'm sure the film works with many of the same plot devices, just probably on a much grander scale. i personally want to finish more Lupin episodes before watching any Lupin movies

okay my goal is to watch these next week

i hope it works :'(

piano moths

Nausicca is one of the most powerful Miyazaki films I think. So I voted for it.
Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky are also insanely beautiful. Princess M is probably my favorite Miyazaki movie. It's so beautiful.

Perfect Blue is also awesome though and you should really watch that.
kill them w kindness

The Hand That Fisted Everyone

don't let's

I saw that Lupin movie with my anime club in like December and it's the only Lupin I've watched so I don't know how it compares to the rest of the Lupin series
I've watched some of Utena, but I haven't finished it yet.
Haven't seen anything else in this poll.

so I don't really have any useful input to give here >_<'
