They are good for keeping the sun out of your eyes.

Also, it can still be bright enough for sunglasses on a slightly cloudy day.

i also strongly dislike the complete disregard of self will and common sense when people show affection and physical acts of romance out of context, time and place. it is extremely disrespectful, in a public view. i see it sometimes at the restaurant, in other venues and sights, of people behaving as if the entire world were their home and everyone obliged to follow suit. i don't think so, you cannot have a sober or serious conversation with someone like that, and in a more general sense, it shows a lack of care which while it may be good, is not the purview of one or two, or even a few, but the whole.

Yes my value system is conflicted but it gives me great meaning and purpose. Authority is absolutely necessary, in every sense and form, the individual would otherwise be meaningless and no longer matter therefore cease to exist. I am very much interested in understanding myself but not at the cost of being rejected by humanity as a whole. In order to understand yourself and in order to care and understand about others you need authority, ideals, beliefs, that measure and shape your growth and progress in both knowledge and the world. I am very aware of where the dissonance and emptiness lies, and am constantly filling up such holes only to keep of finding new ones.

There might be something to say about your father/son/life/view theory but I am not sufficiently high or interested at the moment to delve into that subject or perspective.

same here, i find them to look really silly on me anyway

I think the biggest pair of shades I've owned was a pair of aviators, but they broke so now I have a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers. I'm glad that they're smaller, I found a picture of me in my older sunglasses and they're so big and silly looking.
