applesauce

so here is what happened.

well first thing was that ben and cross called me and were like "lol halloween too many cops we are totally not coming" so then ron and I took a train way up to the northside to pick up all the beer that cross got. and there was kind of a little party going on at ben's place so we had a couple beers and talked for a bit before heading south back to downtown. got downtown, and waited at the meeting place for everyone. In the end it was me, ron, cara, matt, kiernan, elly, kevin, miles, braden, and brian. It was brian, braden, and miles first time ever exploring.

So we get into our groups for entry. The first group was me, kiernan, and miles. After circling a couple times and waiting for a few people to get out of the way, ect, we went. I was up the scaffold and over the wall and starting on the fire escape, kiernan was halfway up the scaffold, and miles was just starting, when some security guy came out of a building across the alley and told us to GTFO. so we did and we all met back up and decided to go for this one office building at UIC that we had done before.

So we walked to the blue line and hopped on the train and took it on over. while we were walking, elly, who has a broken foot, decided she couldn't do it, so her and kevin went home. we got there, and when the time was right, brian climbed the wall, ran up the outside staircase, and opened the inside doors for the rest of us. so up up up up up we went, to the 15th floor roof. View was great. we started taking pictures and talking about shit and drinking and it was all going well until suddenly two cops came up each stair.

so they took ids, checked our DLs for warrants, and then took us all downstairs. they threw the 7 of us guys in the  back of a paddywagon, and cara took a cruiser. this was approx. 12:30

they took us down to the UIC police precinct where they processed us via the normal process. after that was all over we got put in lockup, 2 to a cell (except one group of three). we still hadn't seen cara since the arrest. She showed up sometime around what I estimate to be 3:30 or so? they chained her to a bench in the room outside lockup because all the cells were full. I was in the cell facing her, and we were able to talk via hand signals about what happened. apparently she had to be taken to the hospital to get a weird earring thing cut out of her ear.

anyways so we waited around for fucking ever and then the cops told us that we were being charged only with criminal trespass and they were letting the alcohol and knives go, and that they were going to be transferring us to chicago precinct 11, which they said was on kedzie and harrison. and we were all like FUCK FUCK FUCK because that's a fucking bad area.

so eventually they loaded us up, the 7 guys in the paddywagon and cara in a cruiser and took us over. this was approx 5:00 am.

so we got there and they processed us again and took cara off somewhere. this was maybe 6:00 am or a little before, and was the last time we would hear about what happened to her until about 1:00 pm.

the 11th precinct was a super ghetto station, very old and in bad shape, as well as one of the giant processing stations that has its own courtrooms and shit as part of the complex. they took the 7 of us to a big old lockup cell and put all of us in there with 3 passed-out black guys. 2 of them left after an hour or so.

sometime around maybe 8:00 am or so they came and told us that we had court dates set for nov. 22nd, and they we needed $150 cash to get out and we could call people. for some fucking stupid reason they gave us only two phone calls between the 7 of us. both got answering machines. the guy said that now we would have a trial "tomorrow at 9am" and we were like WTF WTF WTF TWENTY FIVE HOURS FUCK

pretty much right after that they took us to a different giant lockup that had 6 other guys in it, including one of the two who had left our cell earlier in the morning. we found out from the other people in there that we were in a cell full of people waiting to have trials that morning. so that was a good thing to hear.

so then they started calling each person in the cell out where they talked to a public defender and a prosecutor, and were offered a plea bargain. they did all the other guys first, and they all got various bargains, from "time served" to probation and fines, ect. one guy refused the bargain and they refused bail so he was sent to county for 8 days to wait for his trial by jury, which he had requested.

so then it came to our turn. the prosecutor offered us "6 months court supervision and 20 hours community service" and all 7 of us accepted.

so then we were put back in that cell and they started calling everyone out again, one at a time. this time we were taken to the cook county circuit court, one of which was in the building, to appear before the judge. when it was our turn it was short and straightforward and we accepted the plea bargains that we had agreed to earlier and signed some papers. basically if we don't get arrested between now and May 1st, 2012, and do 20 hours community service by Jan 13th, 2012, the conviction goes away. if we are arrested between now and then we will go straight to county, won't be offered a bargain until the main trial, and won't get bail. also neither charge would go away. that would really suck.

so then we were sent back to the cell again. I think this was about 10:30 am or so. Then they came with bologna sandwiches and some grape drink. the sandwiches sucked but the grape drink was okay.

then around 12:30 pm we were released. FINALLY after we were released they told us about cara. she had gotten bond and been released at 10 am. So then we had to take the train and walk a fucking long ass way to the UIC precinct and do more paperwork to get our stuff back. we finally got out of the UIC station again at like 2 pm.

Right now, no. Probably will do drains, caves, and tunnels in Minneapolis when I am home, but I don't know about above ground stuff and definitely not active stuff. After May 1st, yeah for sure. Until then...idk.

Damn, sounds p. shitty. It was a pretty terrible idea, though.

I can't help but smile with the gentleman who requested his trial by jury. Best of luck to you my friend, one cannot imprison a spirit, honor yours in every sense.
