Also, what should I start learning first? Daft punk doesn't sound too bad, nor does Muse.
Muse is great because they have some really easy songs and some pretty difficult ones. Silversun Pickups have some great songs to start on.

a lot of metal would be incredibly easy and fun to play bass to, though... sludge/doom metal

I played a lot of beatles songs, then played a lot of black flag songs and forgot them all, but i can bullshit to any song now.
