You're still using the parenthesis first for the distribution. How else would you find x if the equation was 6/2(x+2)=9? It's just roundabout when all parts of the equation are numbers, but it's not wrong at all

even if you were to distribute the 3 to the two numbers like you're mentioning it would be a 9

3(1+2)
3+6
9

no it would be

parenthesis always come first so you'd add 1 and 2 to get three, then multiple to get 9.

yeah exactly it just depends whether you are 'distributing' or not. since (1+2) isn't very hard to simplify distribution isn't necessary.

but if you were, which would be a slightly more proper way to do it because it eliminates the question of which comes first, you would have

6/2(1+2)
3(1+2)
(3+6)
= 9

Well if you take both answers and find the average 1+9=10 /2 =5 the answer is 5
