Feingold got beat out by some cookie cutter stub who is going to just be another nameless face voting along (republican) party lines. This bothers me. He HAD the youth vote, but I'd be willing to bet half didn't go and vote.

Maybe he could have helped himself if he didn't engage in a smear campaign which, when I polled my classmates, was a main reason for declining to vote. There's been very noticeable disillusionment due to the constant ads which have been running constantly for the past 4 months

I dont know. By the end I  think everyone is completely ad weary and ready for things to quiet back down.
Ignoring them altogether is probably the wisest path to fly, but what are you going to do?

Regardless, what was Johnson's campaign based off of? It was just the vague "cut spending, less taxes, more jobs, what you want to hear" without any proper elaboration. I'm not sure if basing a vote on campaign spending (which I think they were both pretty equal with feingold just above) and attack ads is the right idea, especially with a three term-er who is actually acting as a very independent voice in washington.

Basically, yes, and Milwaukee has the third highest unemployment rate among major US cities so Feingold has been getting a lot of criticism for not doing enough in Wisconsin and is seen as being more focused on Washington. Furthermore the fact that he is rather independent in his policies leads to a lack of support from the democratic party and  its voters. Ron Johnson had better party funding and a more focused group of voters since he toes his party's line more so than does Feingold.

Maybe I missed it; I was a bad forumer and decided the thread was tl;dr, so sorry.

But the only thing I'm actually legitimately disappointed about is that Oberstar lost his seat. Sure, his pork addiction was probably bad for the nation as a whole, but it's the only thing that kept Minnesota transportation alive during T-Paw's ax-man years. If we end up with Emmer, now that we've lost Oberstar, we might as well kiss any chance of developing a legitimate alternative transportation system goodbye.

At least we will have Ellison, right?
