Many countries didn't fail and grew to be great Empires just the same.

But then their empires did indeed fail and they lost much of their influence.

Eventually some of them did.  But that's much more than Germany can say.  Look, I know you think it's a great country (the best in Europe was it?), but to me it's just OK because of all these reasons.

The only empire that I can think of that has not completely failed is the British Empire, but that only lives on as a lifeless shell occupied by the Common Wealth of Nations.

Agreed. An Empire is not something that just any country should attempt as Germany can attest.

yes, they really should have been able to predict the future better
