But the chances of dying compared to previous wars is much lower.  And besides, no politician in his right mind would resort to conscription, so the military would remain a voluntary service.  befuddlement

Frankly, the DADT policy is fairly justified and doesn't really violate anyone's rights. You shouldn't need to openly express your homosexuality in the military, just like you shouldn't need to openly express your heterosexuality in the military. Neither have a place.

What about the military, as opposed to any other line of work or duty, makes this true? The police force doesn't have this (I'd google gay policemen to get numbers on this, but I'm scared).

I feel bad for saying this, but I agree with you. DADT isn't oppressive or anything, in fact it protects the gays from homophobes in the army who'd beat them up or maybe kill them. And it prevents any feelings of uneasiness from arising. Cause if no one trusts the one gay guy, then there'd be problems, yes?

Also I don't see why saying that you like men over women would ever be something that needs to be said (in a military context)
