If I were to get a PC, what brand would you recommend then?  akudood;
I don't really care for Dell, HP doesn't have a good track record, and Sony is too expensive.

As other have said Asus.

Before I built my desktop I had an Acer Desktop that I never had problems with.

Also would building a laptop have advantages? I'm guessing I would have to buy specially built parts to fit the case though. I've never heard of anyone doing this, I'm guessing there is a reason....

So my sister was bitching to my folks about a new laptop, and they caved. Guess who gets the old one! I mean I'd prefer to wipe the thing and reinstall xp but that would cost money.  Does anyone have ideas for wiping a windows computer while keeping the partition and registered os?

Why don't you just pirate good ol' Win XP?

You could like, not use updates.

Get a Student Edition of XP. It comes with a OEM CD Key that can be used on hundreds of computers, its what I'm using at the moment. I've had the CD for like a year now and the CD Key is still valid, and I'm still getting updates.

The best part? Every time I install XP I don't even have to put in the CD Key, it does it for me.

Meh. I've gone without updates sometimes and I've never had problems.

Or just get one of the pre-cracked/no serial XP Professional releases on any torrent tracker, it's essentially the same thing (no serial when you install, auto-passes WGA, etc) but has the [relatively few and useless] perks of Pro
