If you throw a grenade you're either waiting 3-4 seconds to cook it, in which they could leave, or you're throwing it, waiting for it to explode, giving them 2-3 seconds to run away. Your bullets fire instantly and they can't escape them, but you can't see behind a wall. That's where auto aim comes in handy because you wait for it to move a little and then you shoot.

I knew a guy who honed his skills without auto aim in Halo. When Halo 2 came out he handed everyone's asses to them and then went off to college.
