Photoshop is pissing me off...

I'm at school right now using Photoshop. I'm trying to move an image from one place to another and it comes up black and white. I'm trying to adjust the colour and there hasn't been any luck. How the fuck do I switch it to full colour mode?

Image > Mode > RGB
That's the only thing I can think of.

Yes, sounds like the file you're pasting it into is a bitmap or grayscale image. OH MY GOD WHAT IF IT'S A GIF?!?!

I try making the background of the image darker, it gets my shirt too.  I suck with Photoshop.
