Yeah, but how much blacks alive were slaves? Also, blacks under forty probably didn't have much trouble with discrimination laws. Guess who else has been a victim of racism in the United States?

Every race has been hugely discriminated against at some point in history. Every race has been enslaved before. The word slave comes from slav, because slavs were once slaves. And if we're thinking America in general, black people aren't the only one who have had problems with racism.

To this day, racism is in decline. Not much people have been around (as in, old enough to understand what's going on) when their race was under massive discrimination in America. If we want to be equal, we need to forget about the fucking past.

Regardless of whether you were a slave it still effects you. To think that there isn't still a large amount of racism against them today is ridiculous. Look, there is racism of all kinds but none like the Blacks have faced in America.

Racism is still very alive. Please provide statistics that show it is in decline because I find that hard to believe. (I mean in the last 5 years) If my father couldn't get a house in a neighborhood because of it's race and I had to settle for a low-grade school in a bad neighborhood (this being before I was born) I would be effected.

I believe it is the Jews who say "Never Forget". You don't forget the past. There is no point in having a memory if you aren't going to use it to your advantage. Learn from the mistakes of your ancestors and fathers. Racism is still alive and to ignore it will only let it grow.

What I want to know is, if we want to achieve racial equality, why is there still segregation? Things like Black History Month or an Asian Awareness Club are unnecessary if we really want to believe that all races are equal. However, with events and clubs such as these, we're separating black and Asian accomplishments from accomplishments of other races.

People love to spew on about how schools are supposedly diverse now, but it's really a load of BS. At my school, most of the honors classes are entirely white, while the regular classes are mostly black and Hispanic.

Not inherently, though. That's part of the problem. The government isn't doing anything to help out blacks and Hispanics. They can learn, but they're not learning anything because our schools suck so much.

Outside factors are the root cause, yes. Culture is a big thing: notice how Asians are generally high achieving as a result of the attitudes they imported from their former homelands. Still, the government needs to understand that they need to devise a new teaching system for low-achieving students if they want them to get a decent education. Of course, the government doesn't care about blacks or Hispanics.
