Is Spybot still free? Check that out.

As for antivirus, mine came with Trend Micro, which doesn't have the side-effects that Norton does, and seems to actually does its job better than Norton does as well, but I don't think it's free unless you get it paid for with a new computer. I really don't know of any good, free antivirus programs.

I don't use Antivirus or anything on Windows any more.  I'm tired of it never finding anything.
