My town is getting an theme park in 2+ years.

The Forest theme park takes root in Fresno

Great America's Survivor the RideA new mini theme park under construction up in Central California carves out a 10-acre swath from a mammoth $70-million retail/dining/
entertainment/office/hotel/sports complex dubbed Granite Park.

The Forest, as the Fresno mini-park is awkwardly named, is slated to open in May 2008 with an eco-trendy theme and 24 rides and attractions, according to the Fresno Bee.

It?s no coincidence that two of the Forest?s big rides come from Las Vegas? defunct MGM Grand theme park ? a mini-park that disappeared in 2000 after Sin City rid itself of its foolish flirtation with family fun.

The Forest?s big draws await after the jump:

* The 2,400-foot-long, 69-foot-tall, 35-mph, twin-lift Lightning Bolt roller coaster from MGM Grand Adventures
* A combo ride that puts a spinning Tilt-a-Whirl on a wavelike roller coaster track (similar to Survivor the Ride at Great America in Santa Clara, see photo above)
* A 60-foot-tall, 60-mph Screamin? Swing pendulum that launches riders from 0 to 4.5 Gs in three seconds (identical to the Knott?s Berry Farm ride)
* MGM?s former log flume ride
* A double-decker carousel with hand-carved forest animals

Marine World is a shell of what it once was. I remember going there for the animals a long time ago, not for the roller coasters.

Yeah, Fresno is pretty big and I actually live in Clovis but Clovis is so small you can drive for 5 minutes and be in Fresno.
