When people say "lighter" in this day in age, especially when referring to a non-caucasian of the human species or furry animals, more likely than not they are talking about skin or fur color. Usually, when talking about weight, a person will say "not as heavy," "fatter than ___," "weighs less," etc. Most people only use "light" in the context of weight when they are directly referring to measuring how much something weighs... like potatoes and feathers. Even then, most people would say "the potatoes are heavier than the feathers," or something along those lines.
