Last night I went to a friends house where he described the next evolution for the Earth. Mankind would create a robot that would find every possibility of making a product and try and make the product better, faster, and more reliable. The product would be itself.

The robot would just design it self and thats all that it would do at its first stage.

Then we'd program the robot to design things for itself like taste and smell into itself, most of this is done by the robot building things for itself. 10 years later the robots would be so advanced they'd evolve themselves, reproduce by building more of themselves, and maybe even take over human kind.

He suggested that the next great intelligence after humans would be robots built by humans that have evolved, reproduced and acted a lot like humans. Humans would be completely obsolete and would fade away or as cheesy as it sounds be killed by the robots.

They would evolve like humans have evolved.  caterpie;

If that were possible, we wouldn't be calling them "robots." In a way, they'd be us. The next humanity, if you will. If they advance enough, they will essentially become pseudo-humans, because all technological advances thus far have been expansions upon our very being. We personify everything we can.

In other words, it's a never-ending cycle. Next "humans" would be robotic humans, and then those humans would keep building...and yeah...you get the idea.

Not sure just how possible any of this is, but if it was possible, that's probably something like how it would work.

They'll also need to help build their creators.  Which is us.  Into better products.  We'll become cyborgs.

If the robots become aware of everything around them as we are they don't need us, they could do everything without us meaning humans can (and probably would) die off before they did.

Then the term "robot" would lose the direct meaning.

I know, I watched it with disappointment.

When my friend told me of the idea of evolving robots I swear it would have made a great movie, as long as it doesn't become cheesy
