I have ascended.
I probably put at least 500 hours into this fucking game over the last year. Finally beat it. To be fair RNG was very kind to me (that's an understatement lol) and I was able to prepare 100% for the endgame. Still had some close calls though and got unlucky on the astral plane but I was able to make it

What settings? How did you do this?
Any time there are a lot of flies or tears on screen, the game starts to hiccup.

In game options- turn gamma up to like 130 and it makes dark rooms considerably better
I actually haven't really noticed performance issues but you might just be more fine tuned to BoI than myself

that part is just funny to me because of how ridiculous it looks when you hit a tree and spin around, and also because it's just a dumb sequence in general
