i was in a state where i kept waking up and falling asleep consistently and i kept falling in and out of the same dream. at one point, i became aware that i was in a dream.
looking around and knowing that what i was perceiving was a dream was actually one of the weirdest things i've ever experienced. then i realized that i could do whatever the fuck i wanted so i started to fly upwards and then i promptly woke up   OUTSIDER

makes me want to practice lucid dreaming more in the future.

I've gone lucid a few times since I first learned about lucid dreaming back in late 2007, but every time I quickly either wake up or fall back into the dream via a false awakening. OUTSIDER

Your body will wake you up if your heart rate rises above a certain point, which is why in nearly every sex dream you wake up right before it happens.

really? do you have a source to back that up? i guess it makes sense though. a big part of maintaining lucidity is not getting excited about stuff, at least in my personal experience. whenever i get stoked and realize that i'm in a dream i wake up instantly.

I found something on falling dreams (why you wake up right before you hit the ground).

Quote
Dreams in this stage are often accompanied by muscle spasms of the arms, legs, and the whole body. These sudden contractions are also known as myclonic jerks. When you sometimes have these falling dreams, you may feel your whole body jerk or twitch and actually awaken from this jerk. It is thought that this jerking action is part of an arousal mechanism that allows you to wake up quickly and be on the alert to possible threats in the environment.

I forget where I read about the heart rate part.
