Or more specifically, can cats break their voice boxes?

I have this one cat who has a bad skin condition (vets haven't been able to diagnose it, so he's basically stuck with it). Basically, he's constantly scratching and pulling his fur out and bleeding and yeah. He's rather unsightly and uncomfortable all the time. And he loves to sleep on the top of the stair banister.

And since it's not exactly easy to sleep on something that's less than 3 inches thick, he falls constantly. Usually he catches himself, but when he dosen't he slams down onto my wooden stairs from a 3 foot fall OR the ground below- at least a 12 foot fall. Well, nothing has been different thus farm and he's been doing this for months, if not years. I lost track of time.

Just now, my mom and I heard this awful sound coming from the hallway awning (where my stairs are). It sounded like a cat's meow.. but much deeper. Not raspy, just deep. It sounded fucking scary, ghostly even. My first thought was that it was one of my younger brothers or dad thinking they were being funny. And my mom asked me "what's that sound?"

Well, I'm pretty sure it was my cat. The only thing noise I can think of to compare the noise to was one of those canisters that "moo" when you tip it upside down. But even that's not quite right.. it was more lively.

So, was my cat posessed by a demon or what? He hasn't meowed since, so I can't see if it was temporary or what. I can assure you that his meows sounded nothing like that before though.

My cat is really raspy from being a whiny kitten.

I know what you're talking about. Cats make a deep, loud, all most yelling meow that's sounds dreadful. They do this most often when they are scared, or hurt. You might want to take him to the vet again soon to get him checked out. Maybe he hurt himself after falling. I wouldnt take this too lightly :(
