i can't believe i spent sixty god damn dollars on this game and i've only played dit like twice
so my experiences with heroes so far
d.va: i don't get many kills but i make a good shield for my teammates i guess plus it's really fun just boosting around
mccree: got some easy kills but also died so fast it's ridiculous
tracer: died even faster. i only tried her once though
roadhog: this guy is so easy to get cheap kills with, the chain is so fun
genji: really fun to play as but people target genji when they see him so even though i'm able to get kills pretty easily as this dude i also die really fast. also never really found a good time to try out the reflect ability, i usually forgot i have it. which means i played him completely wrong lol
junkrat: so fun wtf, this guy is chaos and i love it. his ultimate is ridiculously good. and i love the bear trap+mine combo. i actually got most of my good medals last night as junkrat, as well as my only play of the game.
bastion: i like easy kills but i also don't like everyone targeting me
haven't tried out anyone else yet

For me, Reaper's teleport is mostly just for reaching high areas. But, theoretically, you can use it to get behind people to take them out by surprise. Happens to me all the time :(
Reinhardt is the definition of Tank. As far as I know, you're there to protect, and assist everyone in moving forward. and to crush people with his charge :)
That makes sense. I guess he only really works out if your team is being cooperative.

rein is probably the most used character in the game. people are always asking for him in comp. You're pretty much just for blocking tho until u make a push and ive seen some rein's never make that push.
Reaper is really for sneaking up on people. if you run in guns blazing ur gonna get ur shit slapped son. if u use his ghost form and the teleport thing u can get behind the team easy and then u want to target the tanks since they're huge and reaper can take huge chunks of health out of them
yeah that's more or less how i've been using reaper. D.Va also benefits from that style of just ganking people out of nowhere, if you can manage it
I guess my issue with Reinhardt is that I'll go to push and nobody comes with me.

ok, so I just had a trio of amazing games.
first was escort payload on Dorado. The enemy team never stopped us once. We were never contested.
second was control point defend on Numbani. They contested us a few times, but never took it
third was the same map on attack. We took it so fast and held it nearly without opposition.
maybe the enemy team was horrible, maybe we just overpowered them. But it felt good
i even got gold medals on all these games.

honestly choke points like hanamura and eichenwald could use a sombra really well. I hate it when the game turns into the people just fighting behind each teams Rein Shield. The point is to cap, not to stare each other down. Sombra can effectively neutralize a rein shield with either her EMP or a careful hack which is very useful.

just had one of the worst games of comp ever
we were doing FINE and our Reaper was telling our Pharah (who had gold damage) to switch and the pharah didnt want to and our Reaper was like "YO IF I TELL YOU TO DO SOMETHING YOU FUCKING DO IT" so then our pharah just left the game and our reaper started jumping off the edge. Keep in mind that we were WINNING during all of this

today. new tank hero, Orisa, now live on PTR. she's a weird grab bag of abilities from other characters but her kit does sound pretty interesting overall

Female Bastion?
400 health, it looks as if it's split evenly between armor and health. so basically 200 health 200 armor.
main weapon: fusion driver. basically a gatling gun. think turret mode bastion, but presumably with less spread and maybe less range, since it's a main weapon
E-ability: protective barrier. she shoots a barrier where you're aiming. it's a 900 health barrier that faces one direction. think of it as a reinhardt shield you can put wherever.
lshift ability: fortify. this makes orisa temporarily take less damage and be unable to be knocked back or down by anything. she can tank through boops, reinhardt's ult, etc.
right click ability: halt! basically, a miniature graviton surge. small, very short-lived burst that pulls nearby enemies into it.
ultimate: supercharger. this is basically a symmetra shield generator that gives nearby allies a nanoboost effect, raising their attack. like a shield gen, it can be destroyed by your enemies. but you can't just hide it far away like a shield gen, as it only affects nearby allies. so you'll want to put it around a nearby corner or behind a little piece of geography or something. or just protect it after you put it down. fuck, couldn't you theoretically just put a barrier up next to it? this thing is going to be powerful
basically, she's a really versatile tank. seems cool as hecky

Orisa's main thing seems like she makes her teammates harder to kill. So hopefully the Bastion nerf will come with her addition to the game.
I feel like Zenyatta's about to get a lot more valuable and I'm ok with that.

Agreed, her kit just seems so huge right now. But idk, maybe her abilities will be less useful than they seem right now once people learn how to deal with them.

a mini version of zarya's ult, winston's shield, an aoe version of a nerf'd ana ult, plus a p.strong gun and personal shields+ability to negate some abilities is a bit much.
i mean it's a cool kit but it's trying to do 2 much and im not a fan of abilities that are essentially a mini version of another hero's ultimate

I love how gankey she can be tho
Yeah, she's ganky because she can't very easily kill anyone by herself lol, tho she can win some 1v1s if she's at full health prior. So you pretty much end up helping your teammates kill enemies. Her mobility can help you set up a flank easily. Ideally you would also sometimes go off on your own to surprise people, especially snipers, sort of in a Reaper-style way. She's a good counter to anyone trying to use the high ground against your team.
Granted, she can just be a frontline tank because of high health and defense matrix, but you'll get torn to shreds if you don't mix things up. She's got a lot of utility, I love her.
About her ult, it works best on parts of maps that have a wall or something you can launch it over into the thick of a fight. In almost all cases tho, wall or not, it's much better to launch it above enemies. They won't see it right away and they'll have less time to avoid it. But yeah it's often not easy to kill anyone with
I haven't really tested it out yet, but it looks like they already nerfed the Bastion update today. Damage reduction for all heroes is now capped at 50% instead of 70%, and Bastion's ironclad ability gives him 20% damage reduction (in tank and sentry mode) now instead of 35%.
hopefully that will be enough to make him less impossible to kill

honestly i think it might be best to wait a week before doing placement tests. i ended up placing like 2100 this go around (part of this is not knowing when to stop playing comp, at the end of last season I pushed headfirst into comp despite repeatedly getting matched with leavers and people throwing)
by waiting i think the herd will be thinned out and it'll be less of the clusterfuck of everyone getting matched with everyone.
and even more honestly ive gotten the dumbest teams since the start of this event idk what the deal is but everyone is automatically salty and dumb. though this could just be because im in low gold right now.

kaz, when you play with us i honestly don't even notice a huge difference in our skill at the game. i do notice, however, that since you lower our SR average by quite a bit, it's a lot easier to win
so playing with you is still hella fun
if you do still feel bad tho (which you shouldn't), just play comp more and focus on getting better at one or two characters. you'll eventually get better.
I surprisingly had a lot of good games in comp.
We won nearly all of them. I went from ~1200 to ~1500!

i mean you did ok as far as i can telll, its not like you weren't getting any eliminations. it doesn't help tho that because you were grouped with us, you were forced to fight people who were lvl 100/200+ lol.
just try out some characters in the training stage thingy, see who you like, maybe try some solo quickplays so you're playing with/against people your own level as well
seriously just play mystery heroes and use f1 a lot

mercy's rez won't be as broken, but on the other hand you don't need to wait for an ult charge to use it. her new ult makes her a super mercy. ability to fly, heal beams affecting everyone around her, rez cooldown reduced (and reset upon ulting). improved gun during ulting too but i doubt many will take advantage of that.

there is so much deep lore that you're pretty much only ever exposed to in trailers and other promo materials, and so many fun and unique powers and abilities that are all just multiplayer
and don't get me wrong, the game does multiplayer very well, but i feel like the lack of singleplayer is an obvious missed opportunity
